By setting an example for a considerable number of brand marks with its sound conception of collections and merchandizing, LC Waikiki, the address of the attainable fashion, has been continuing its development and growth adventure as a Turkish brand mark under the roof of “LC Waikiki Retail Company ” for 16 years.
FROM YESTERDAY TILL TODAY…
1985 – 1996
The birth of LC Waikiki…
LC Waikiki emerged as a French brand mark in 1985. The French designers, George Amoual and his partner, decided to break into French readymade clothing market by forming a new unusual brand mark. After having decided to break into readymade clothing sector, George and his partner found the name of their brand mark during an air travel. Having got excited about the introduction of the famous Waikiki beach covered by a journal which they were reading during the air travel, the both partners thought that the name “Waikiki” would be quite suitable for the products which were going to be designed in an unusual way by them. They added the abbreviation of “LC”, which is composed of the initials of “Les Copains”, meaning “Friends” in French language, and thus the brand mark LC Waikiki emerged.
The fruitful and enjoyable Cooperation between LC Waikiki and Taha Textile…
The brand mark which was able to made quite a name for itself and attained considerably high sales figures in France began to work in collaboration with Taha Textile, a Turkish company, with the aim of meeting the increased need for production in 1988. During these years when Turkey started a new path in the development of textile and ready-made clothing sector and also during these years when Turkey was able to make a name for itself within the world clothing sector with its production power and raw material sources, Taha Textile strengthened its cooperation by exceedingly meeting the expectations of LC Waikiki. In view of the success already attained at LC Waikiki, Taha Textile started to expand by increasing its investments and Taha Group, having engaged in contract manufacturing in the name of distinguished brand marks of the world with its new production companies established in the forthcoming years, was thus formed.
Tema Textile and about 700 LC Waikiki retail dealers…
In view of attaining its targets of whole sale trade and forming a distinguished brand mark, Taha Group established Tema Textile Company in 1991. Firstly, by obtaining the Turkey license rights of LC Waikiki which was the most important export customer of Taha Group, Tema Textile started to sell LC Waikiki products through the system of retail dealers on a whole sale trade basis. While at first, all the designed collections of LC Waikiki were introduced by France, the first design unit of the Group was established within Tema Textile in 1993. Although at first, Tema Textile had determined its establishment aim as wholesaling, Tema Textile was able to gain the appreciation of both entrepreneurs and consumers in quite a short time owing to its successful and colorful collections which it prepared for the youngsters and children and on account of the efficient marketing methods it adopted.
Thus, the number of corner retail dealers started to increase with each passing day. Tema Textile, having been encouraged by the already attained success, established another special design unit intended for readymade clothing targeting the adults in 1995.Until the attempt of retail dealing of the Group in 2000, which was also increasingly strengthened afterwards, the number of the retail dealers of the Group had already reached up to 700.
1996 – 2000
The years when the LC Waikiki succeeded in becoming a Turkish brand mark…
Considering the strategy of Taha Group aimed at breaking into the retailing sector, Tema Merchandising Inc. was established with the aim of opening shops and thus selling the LC Waikiki products at its own shops instead of retail dealers. In 1997, when the research and feasibility studies in relation to forming its own group brand mark of Taha Group gained acceleration within the context of strategic plans, the partners of the French firm LC Waikiki decided to sell the brand mark. As a result of the fact that the sales of LC Waikiki products were increasing quickly in Turkey at this period and on account of Taha Group’s desire to own a brand mark of its own, all the patent rights of LC Waikiki throughout the world were bought and thus LC Waikiki become a Turkish brand mark in 1997.
Following the development mentioned above, Taha Group decided to withdraw the LC Waikiki products from the France market for a while so as to restructure the products both in terms of collection and merchandising concepts. As a result of a radically taken decision, the sales of LC Waikiki products made by the retail dealers were reduced to a considerable extent during the same term by decreasing the number of the retail dealers and the investments made in merchandising systems were sped up.
Going on attack in the sphere of merchandising and the Tema Group…
Tema Merchandising, which had turned towards opening only its own stores by giving priority to reveal its identity to be known for retailing concept, accelerated its project to open contemporary shops in which Tema Group would be able to introduce the LC Waikiki collections to its customers.
Following the above mentioned drastically taken decision, Tema Group decided to operate its production companies and retail sales companies in two separate groups. Thus, the production companies going on with their business operations under the roof of Taha Group’s readymade clothing retailing sector started their trade activities under the umbrella of Tema Group while Taha Group were taking quick steps in the sphere of production, Tema Group concentrated on the retailing sector.
LC Waikiki and new brand marks…
Having come to the decision to launch its collections under several sub brand marks which shall thus address to the appreciation of all the people from all walks of life in its own stores, Tema Group, in addition to LC Waikiki, introduced XSIDE brand mark to the taste of Turkish Customers. XSIDE appeals to the youngsters over 15 years of age who follow the fashion.
The leader of Turkey in the ready-made clothing sector…
Today, Tema Group has changed its name as LC Waikiki Retail Company. LC Waikiki Retail Company sources the products that are offered for sales in its stores through a global supply chain. LC Waikiki Retail Company is one of the leading companies of the Turkish ready-to-wear industry with its production history starting from Taha Group and with its achievements as LC Waikiki in the ready-to-wear retail industry.
LC Waikiki Retail Company attained the following turnover figures through the LC Waikiki stores, respectively. By the end of 2004-255 million TL, by the end of 2005-346 million TL which reflects an increase of 35 %, by the end of 2006-495 million TL which reflects an increase of 43%, by the end of 2007-719 million TL which reflects an increase of 45 %, by the end of 2008-1 billion and 49 million TL which reflects an increase of 46%, by the end of 2009-1 billion and 428-million TL which reflects an increase of 36 %, by the end of 2010-2 billion and 107 million TL which reflects an increase of 48%, by the end of 2011-2 billion and 900 million TL which reflects an increase of 35%, by the end of 2012-3 billion and 500 million TL.
LC Waikiki Retail Company has been managing a chain stores rendering service to millions of people from all walks of life through over 380 LC Waikiki stores at 71 provinces in Turkey. LC Waikiki Retail Company has been keeping the leading position in the sector since the summer term of 2004 according to the Reports Indicating the Consumption Index of Ready-Made Clothing prepared and published at every six months by KMG.
LC Waikiki sets its objective to become one of the three companies in the sector in Europe…
LC Waikiki Retail Company, which started to make investments abroad in 2009, opened its first store in Europe in Romania. Having a total of 51 stores in such 16 states as, Georgia, Romania, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Albania, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Russia, Syria, Egypt, Poland, Iran, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine. LC Waikiki Retail Company is planning to increase the number of the stores abroad up to 64 by the end of the year. LC Waikiki Retail Company, which expandsquickly into the markets outside Turkey from 2012 onwards, acts within the vision of being one of the most three successful ready-made clothing retail dealers in Europe by 2023.
